Did you know that the writer Anthony Trollope was the inventor of the mailbox? He came up with the idea when he worked for the British Post Office. (Surprisingly, he also worked as a mailman in Mallow, Ireland, the town where my mother was born and raised.)

Actually, Trollope invented the "letter drop" -- just a simple pillar with a slot opening -- in 1852. Previously, people had to take their letters directly to the post office. Philip Downing invented the modern mailbox, which protects the letters from theft and from the elements, in 1891.
no kidding be polite when disagreeing with someone.
